XTRADES

Introduction

Xtrades is a startup that specializes in bringing together stock traders and stock analysts from around the world to an online social media platform. Xtrades also has a learning platform that is intended to help introduce new stock traders into the market, and help their consumers learn the ropes on how to be a successful trader.

During my time at Xtrades as a product designer, I worked on smaller projects, such as email campaigns and promotional web module designs, as well as larger projects, such as creating a newsroom and documentations page for their website.

What I’ve Done

While at Xtrades I updated the design system with new components and created an entire new typography scale for the mobile version of their website. I also worked briefly in Mailchimp redoing a previous email template and improving the design to be more aesthetically pleasing. I worked with one other design intern who would give me feedback on my designs, but the majority of my work was done independently, giving me tons of ownership and agency over my designs. Here are some of the projects I worked on:

The Problem with Newsrooms

One of the main issues of Xtrades was that there was no way for new users to communicate with the business outside of discord, their main communications channel. This may be a threshold that many consumers may not want to cross. For example, if a user does not have a discord and does not feel like making a new account. The newsroom page will give multiple audiences a way to understand what Xtrades is, in addition to other resources on trading and the stock market to help get them engaged and interested in their product.

The Ask

I was tasked with designing a newsroom page for their website. This would allow the company to add another line of communication to their current consumers and also add another page for new users to be engaged with. Additionally, this is another step the company is taking to increase the scalability of their website and business.

The Process

I started with wireframes and some competitive analysis: I went on other companies websites and looked at their newsroom pages to see what they did well and what I could do differently for Xtrades specifically. I then worked on wireframes, and submitted them for some user research. After learning what could be improved, I adapted the page’s hierarchy and optimize the layout for ease of use, eventually coming to a final product. I also added and modified the Xtrades design system to include a typography scale for the mobile version.

The Outcome

After coming to a final design, I did a last round of A/B user testing to truly finalize my work. The frontend engineers are currently working on implementing my designs to their website, but you can find an alpha version of my designs on their website right now!

The Problem with Documentation

Another pressing issue that had to be taken care of was creating a documentations page for Xtrades. Currently, they are using a subscription service and having Gitbooks host their documentations page. This is both costly to the company and also is extremely suboptimal for their search engine optimization (SEO).

The Ask

I was tasked with designing a documentations page that they are able to use for their own website. It would hold all of the previous information that the past documentations page had, but also would have the perk of being scalable for the company as the business grows larger.

The Process

My process was a similar approach to my other newsroom project; I started out with low-fidelity wireframes and designs, as well as some research on documentation pages and websites. I wanted my design to have the color scheme and branding of Xtrades, while keeping similar elements and visual and informational hierarchy to the Gitbooks documentation page. This is to ensure that new and old users would not have the layout changed and find the new design intuitive and easy to use.

The Outcome

Currently the frontend engineers are working on moving their documentations page from Gitbooks to the Xtrades website. The completed designs should be available on their page late 2022. Stay tuned for updates!
